Joy

Working with a yarn called Joy doesn’t just describe the product; it subtly reflects back onto the maker. The moment someone picks it up, they’re stepping into a story where they’re the kind of person who chooses delight on purpose.

The yarn becomes a quiet companion that signals something to us: we are creating with intention, we value warmth, and we are bringing a little brightness into the world stitch by stitch.

Yarn Weights FAQ

What is yarn weight?

Every yarn has its own unique thickness. To simplify things, there is a universal chart for yarn weights to categorise all the yarn by thickness. Yarn in each weight category will typically be around the same thickness.

How can I choose the best yarn weight for my project?

This depends on the project you are working on. Typically, if you are following a pattern, the designer will indicate their suggested yarn weight. You can then find your preferred yarn according to the yarn weight. It is important to use the right yarn weight for your project so that you can get the correct size or gauge, especially for clothing and wearable projeccts.

What yarn weights are there?

Yarn weights range from Size 0 (Lace), Size 1 (Fingering), Size 2 (Sports), Size 3 (DK), Size 4 (Aran), Size 5 (Chunky), Size 6 (Bulky).

Are there other factors to consider besides yarn weight for my project?

Besides yarn weight, the material of the yarn also plays a part to your project. For example, 100% Cotton is heavier than 100% Acrylic. As such, for the same yarn weight in 50g, you will have a shorter length for cotton than for acrylic yarn. This will affect how much yarn to purchase and how heavy the overall project will turn out with the same hook/needle size. It will also affect how your finished piece will look and feel.
